Statement of Purpose
DiggingOutTogether.com provides information and inspiration for rising above
what is, to realize what can be as we make the best use of the resources God has entrusted to our care. Our goal is to encourage fellow diggers to overcome past mistakes and present circumstances by stepping out in faith, teaming up with friends, and taking responsible chances.
Beliefs
- All people, even those who appear successful by worldly standards, are in need of digging out.
“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23)
- Whether knee deep in debt, clutter, busyness, addictions, or other circumstances,
changing what is happening around us requires an understanding of what is happening within us.
“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2)
- When we grab a shovel and do our best, God makes up the difference and does the rest, using every action—even mistakes—for His good.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
- Digging out from our own circumstances equips us to lead others as God both desires and requires us to seek out and serve those overwhelmed by the very situations we have overcome.
“Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act.” (Proverbs 3:27)
Mantra for Diggers
“I can’t do it. It’s too hard!” Every parent at one time or another has heard these words. When they come from my children, I offer this advice:
Inch by inch,
yard by yard;
what seems impossible
is only hard.
You cannot finish
if you don’t begin;
digging out
requires digging in.
Mantra for Helpers
Below is a scoop of encouragement for those in a position to serve, rather than be served. It has become a mantra for my existence and the reason for this website. For those who can carry a tune (and those who don't mind if they can't), the verse works well when sung to the theme song from the Beverly Hillbillies.
Each one reach one . . . or two or three.
Oh what a different world it would be.
If we all joined together as a Christian family
To each one reach one . . . or two or three.
