No two home
offices are organized alike. In our first home, my "office" was a
space-saving computer armoire tucked into a corner of our kitchen.

When we moved
into a house that had a built-in desk, new organizers were needed to
coral the clutter.

Steps taken to organize
my office area are described below:
-
The first thing I did to make better use of
my office space was
to create more structure in the middle cabinet by adding another shelf.

the third shelf was added.)

-
Next, a
Desk Sorter was added to the lower,
middle shelf to keep envelopes and papers under control (see
photo below).

-
Photo Boxes on the upper, left shelf hold software
installation CDs and user manuals.
- A
Wire Cabinet Organizer
makes good use of space in the bottom part of the left cabinet.
- A variety of shoe
boxes keep envelopes, stationary, and cards organized on shelves
in the middle cabinet.
-
Expandable File Pockets on the lower, right shelf keep
driving directions, tourist information, and kids activities
within easy reach.
- A
Drawer Organizer stores pens, highlighters, and other office
supplies.

- Another organizer
stores cords, rechargers, and electronics. Note: To remember where
cords belong, label each compartment of the organizer.

- The final step is the
ongoing one of
eliminating irritations as they arise. For weeks, one of my greatest
irritations happened whenever I reconnected my laptop to the
monitor and power supply cords (the cords kept slipping off of the pullout
shelf and falling to the floor). To eliminate having to crawl
under the desk to retrieve the cords, I used 3M Command Strips to secure two clips to
the pullout shelf and trapped the cords in their grip. Problem solved!
